The Ethnocultural Identity of the East Slavic Peoples in Siberia: History of Study and Dynamics

In this article, the author focuses on the relevance of studying the history and current status of the Eastern Slavs – the majority population of our country. This topic is a central one both at international congresses organized in Russia and in projects by foreign researchers. Particular attention is given to the analysis of a collective monograph devoted to the ethnocultural identity of Russians, Ukrainians, and Belarusians – “Siberia and Siberians: The Ethnocultural Identity of the Russian and Other East Slavic Peoples in Siberia (19th – Early 21st Centuries)”. It identifies three main factors in the formation of ethnocultural identity and analyzes distinctive features in traditional culture and visual imagery.
